Loves coffee, riding her bike and exploring new places in Tokyo. When not in the Big Mikan, she can be found reading, gardening and running around after her three grandchildren in her house in the mountains of Japan.

Highlights of Melanie’s 30-year career include work at: the Australian Embassy in Tokyo; chair of The Australia Chamber of Commerce in Japan from 2010 to 2016; CEO of food import business, Agenda Japan; and Country Manager for Meat & Livestock Australia. She also was instrumental in assisting with discussions to bring about a successful bilateral free trade agreement between Japan and Australia.

A long-term supporter of gender equality and women in leadership, Melanie is the Head Delegate for Australia’s delegation to W20, and also established a not-for-profit called Celebrating Women in Japan. Melanie currently runs her own consulting business, Melanie Brock Advisory, and sits on the board of Sega Sammy, a Japan-based entertainment and gaming company.

Melanie has been a member of the Australia Japan Cooperation Committee Board since 2010, the Australia-Japan Research Centre Advisory Board since July 2019 and an Advance Global Ambassador since October 2019. In 2020 she was the recipient of the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for her role in the advancement of the Australia-Japan economic relationship.
