Johnson brings over two decades of leadership advising boards and management teams
FGS Global (“FGS”), the world's leading stakeholder strategy firm, today announced the appointment of Tom Johnson as Global Head of Private Capital and Financial Services, effective December 16, 2025. Johnson, a trusted advisor to many of the world’s leading companies, joins FGS from H/Advisors Abernathy, where he most recently served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 2016 and Co-CEO of H/Advisors’ global platform since 2022.
In this newly created role within FGS’s Transaction & Financial Communications practice, Johnson will spearhead the growth of the firm’s private capital business and expansion across financial services. He will bring the full scope of FGS’s global platform, experts, and solutions to serve clients. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for the industry, as private capital managers diversify into new asset classes and distribution channels amid heightened regulatory scrutiny and geopolitical uncertainty. In this environment, GPs and their portfolio companies increasingly seek bespoke multistakeholder and global counsel.
“Tom is an accomplished and highly respected leader who brings a combination of industry expertise, strategic vision, and hands-on experience guiding clients through some of the most complex matters in our field,” said Alex Geiser, CEO of FGS. “As a longtime leader in our industry, he has forged a reputation as a trusted advisor to corporate leaders and Boards, with a clear understanding of the unique needs of sophisticated investors and institutions. He will join our talented Transaction & Financial Communications team to extend our leadership and reinforce our strong positioning in global financial services.”
At H/Advisors Abernathy, Johnson expanded the firm’s capabilities in public affairs, digital strategy, corporate governance, and research while advising a wide variety of clients across industries, with a particular focus on private capital and financial services. He is a frequent speaker at industry forums such as the Garrett Institute and Equilar Board Leadership Forum and serves on the boards of Volunteers of America’s Greater New York and the LAGRANT Foundation.
“FGS’s expansive, integrated platform is a true market differentiator at a time when senior executives require support across all stakeholder groups and insight into geopolitical and market trends that are impacting business success,” said Johnson. “I’m excited by the opportunity to build on the firm’s recent momentum in this area, especially with private capital driving growth across financial services sectors while navigating a fraught geopolitical landscape and volatile markets. I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues across regions and delivering innovative solutions for clients globally.”
“Tom is an all-star who we’ve enjoyed collaborating with on many client matters over the years,” said Andrew Cole, Deputy Global CEO and Co-Head of the Transaction & Financial Communications practice. “Like all of us at FGS, he lives and works at the nexus of finance, technology, business, and politics. He knows firsthand that a multi-stakeholder approach is essential for success. We’re excited to welcome him to the team.”
