With Inauguration Day less than a week away, President-elect Trump is prepared to move quickly with a flurry of executive actions once sworn in. He is expected to sign many executive orders on day one, with an emphasis on undoing the last four years of Biden administration policies. Here’s what to anticipate:
Immigration & Border Security – Trump will reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy, reimpose Title 42 to expedite deportations, end the CBP One app that facilitates immigration and launch large-scale deportation efforts likely through invocation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
Technology & AI Policies –He will also rescind Biden’s executive order on artificial intelligence to focus on “AI development rooted in free speech,” pause or change CHIPS Act awards for American semiconductor manufacturers, direct the FTC to halt privacy rule-making and potentially change the TikTok ban and forced sale.
Administrative Changes – Create a new “Schedule F” for civil servants across the administration, making them “at will” employees and providing more flexibility for firing them.
Energy & Environment – Rescind all climate-related executive orders, increase domestic oil and LNG production, withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords, pause new offshore wind leases and review Clean Air Act waivers that allowed California’s stringent pollution rules.
Healthcare – Halt federal promotion of gender transition, approve state Medicaid work requirements and provide additional flexibility to states and alter the IRA’s Medicare drug price negotiation and other drug pricing policies.
Foreign Policy – Scrutinize aid to Ukraine, reinstate sanctions on Iran, support Israeli military actions and pressure China on trade agreements.
Other Domestic Policies – Repeal Biden’s executive order on Title IX protections for transgender students, end DEI programs in federal institutions and launch a “Salute to America 250” event.
