Hong Kong, 05 November 2020: Finsbury, the global strategic communications consultancy and trusted advisor to many of the world’s most successful companies, today announced that Ginny Wilmerding has joined the firm as Partner in Hong Kong. The appointment comes as Finsbury accelerates the growth of its Asia business and is the latest of several senior hires that have strengthened Finsbury’s capabilities in China, Japan and the region. Finsbury’s key appointments over the past 12 months include Tokyo-based Partners and office leads Deborah Hayden and Minako Hattori; Daniel Bogler, the former Financial Times managing editor, who is now a Senior Advisor in Tokyo; Paul Yang, Partner in Hong Kong and China lead; and Richard Barton, Partner in Hong Kong. Ginny will focus on developing Hong Kong, mainland China and US-based clients, targeting regional and cross-border transactions, governance and activist situations, geopolitics and public affairs, reputation management, ESG and investor engagement. She has significant experience helping Asian companies build trust and navigate critical issues in the US and she has advised leading international firms as they build out their businesses in mainland China and other Asian countries. Finsbury’s expansion of its Asia business comes as it prepares to merge with The Glover Park Group (GPG) and Hering Schuppener. The newly formed company, Finsbury Glover Hering, will combine the complementary strengths of three of the world's most respected advisory firms into a single enterprise and provide clients with a global network of almost 700 experts in the world's major financial, government, business and cultural centres.

Roland Rudd, Finsbury founder and Chairman, said: “We are delighted that Ginny has joined us at such an exciting time in our growth. With our merger next year and ambitious plans for Asia, Ginny and the rest of the Asia team will play a central role in developing our global business.”

Ginny Wilmerding, Partner, said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Finsbury team as we become Finsbury Glover Hering. For decades I’ve had a front row seat watching the rise of Asian innovators and giants and advising on the complexities global firms face in this region. At a time when trust between nations is at an all-time low and expectations of corporates is at an all-time high, there is a clear role for a firm like ours that can deliver the very best strategic guidance and ideas.”

Ben Richardson, Partner and head of Asia, said: “Ginny is one of the most respected communications professionals in Hong Kong and Asia, and brings a huge amount of expertise and experience. Our clients worldwide will benefit from her deep understanding of the Asia market and her ability to provide clear counsel on the most complex and difficult issues.”

Prior to Finsbury, Ginny was with Brunswick Group for nearly 11 years, where she was a Partner. She has spent 17 years working in Hong Kong and mainland China and speaks and reads Chinese.
