Based in offices overlooking the Thames in central London, FGS is a leading global strategic communication consultancy operating in the main business hubs around the world. We are looking for a Senior Associate, with an equity research, IR or investment banking background, to join our fast-growing Equity Advisory group to provide an exceptional service to our high-profile clients.
Typical duties will involve:
To analyse and understand complex situations and define clear approaches to resolve issues aligned with clients’ strategic objectives
Articulating sell and buy side perspectives on positives and negatives of a client’s investment case, gathering investor feedback, analysis of share price drivers, benchmarking guidance, disclosure and KPIs, substantiating pillars of an equity story, understanding and analysing accounting practice
Correctly judging mission critical situations and timely decisioning making; standing by his/her convictions /recommendations both within and outside of the firm and finding a mutually acceptable solution when faced with opposition.
Establishing relationships within account teams and client teams via consistent verbal and written contributions. Use presentation skills effectively to support recommendations
Coming up with concrete ideas on how to acquire additional business from and proposing cross-selling opportunities to existing clients. Actively scanning for new business opportunities (e.g. CEO changes, PR moves) and contributing significantly to development of new business briefs. Leading on first drafts of proposals and pitch documents and managing pitch teams with support from partners/MDs
Contributing significantly to the development of FGS Global and the one-firm culture, e.g. by leading internal cross-team (sub-)projects, generating and implementing ideas that advance the firm.
Successful candidates will demonstrate
Necessary attributes:
Four-to-six years of experience in equity research, IR or investment banking
Understands the client’s perspective and acts accordingly beyond practice or office interests; develops integrated solutions using and sharing expertise from previous/current client experience
Able to build strong relationships; potential to command the confidence of others internally & externally
Actively expanding external network including clients, journalists and analysts/bankers/other advisors at corresponding levels and across the firm
Independent, clear and creative thinking, takes initiatives, goes beyond the expected, spots opportunities and innovates
Continually seeks to broaden knowledge and contact base through networking; shares expertise
Bachelor’s level degree or MBA or equivalent
Skills:
Writes in a clear and well organised style; demonstrates a high professional standard for client documents, client emails and internal materials, including strong attention to detail. Increasingly able to draft advice/recommendations to clients on behalf of the team
Can confidently review and draft key materials: client advice notes, briefing notes, Q&A, comms plans and strategies, key messages
Has a strong understanding of the building blocks of an equity investment case
Able to contribute towards development of ideas and concepts for growing the EA business through new projects/clients/business
Contributes towards training and developing more junior EA team members
Developing EA-related presentation skills, both written and verbal, both internally and externally
