Associate, Strategic Communications (Energy & Sustainability)

FGS Global (FGS), a leading strategic communications and government relations firm, is seeking a motivated, sharp and energetic junior-level professional to join the firm’s Strategic Communications practice. This position is within the practice’s Energy & Sustainability group and based in our Washington, DC or New York City office.

FGS’s Energy & Sustainability group takes on some of the most complex communications and government affairs challenges spanning a wide spectrum of climate, environmental, sustainability and energy issues. Our team is uniquely positioned to help clients navigate these issues with a mix of deep issue expertise, an unparalleled network of connections, and a two-decade track record at the vanguard of climate, clean energy, and sustainability conversations around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Basic writing and research tasks (including emails, meeting agendas, messaging documents, press materials, client documents, owned media content, etc.)

  • Assist client teams in prep for meetings/pitches

  • Monitor and/or compile daily press clips for multiple clients

  • Build and maintain press lists

  • Pitch media contacts

  • Write briefing documents, talking points, press releases, etc.

  • Maintain knowledge of evolving policy and political issues that impact the energy & sustainability sector

  • Administrative support for client teams and senior staff, including scheduling, booking travel, and filtering internal and external requests

  • Contribute to firm’s new business process and efforts

ATTRIBUTES

  • A BA/BS degree in a related field with 1-2 years of relevant internship experience

  • Interest, familiarity and experience in energy & sustainability issues

  • Ability to project manage and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Extremely strong writing and communications skills; ability to produce clear, concise materials within tight deadlines

  • Superior research and editing skills

  • Ability to identify and cultivate key media contacts and outlets for a range of clients

  • Experience pitching stories to local and national news outlets is ideal

  • Experience with rapid response or 'war room' efforts is ideal

  • Strong strategic thinking and long-term planning skills

District of Columbia Salary Range

$65,000—$65,000 USD
