Charlie Smalling is a Director in the San Francisco office. He develops and executes communications strategies for a variety of transactions and special situations including M&A, public listings, shareholder activism preparedness and defense, management transitions, cybersecurity and privacy issues, litigation and regulatory settlements, as well as ongoing media and investor relations programs.
His notable experience includes assisting investment firms such as SoftBank, The Gores Group, Permira and GGV Capital with ongoing corporate positioning, media relations and portfolio support; managing financial and crisis communications for major semiconductor companies; advising clients across industries on responses to cybersecurity incidents; and supporting clients across industries on settlements with organizations including the Department of Justice, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and State Attorneys General.
He began his career in corporate communications at Dropbox, where he primarily focused on financial communications, cybersecurity and privacy matters and reputation management.
Charlie graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Foreign Service.
