Ed was born in Zeist in the Netherlands in 1951 and got his primary education in the Netherlands and France. He studied law at the university of Utrecht from 1969 to1973. His military service was in the Royal Air Force. Then he joined the Foreign Service in 1975.His career started in Jakarta in 1976 followed by postings to Paris, Brussels, The Hague, Paris again and Beijing. He was also seconded to the OECD in Paris, to the European Commission in Brussels and to NATO. In 2007 and 2008 he was Grandmaster to the Royal House of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. As a result of his postings he gained a lot of experience in and insight into the functioning of the European Union and through the posting at NATO into political/military affairs. Prior to joining FGS Global Ed worked for

couple of years for Hague Corporate Affairs. He was a special envoy for the Netherlands for the international conference on the use of AI in the military domain.He also served on the Advisory Council for International Affairs (AIV) and was a weekly columnist for the Dutch newspaper het Financieele Dagblad. He gives regular talks on geopolitical topics , gives comments on radio and television and conduct masterclasses for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
