Before FGS Global, James spent eight years at HSBC, where he worked in the Office of the Group CEO and as Chief of Staff to the Global Chief Communications Officer. His time there was focused on supporting the Group CEO’s leadership of the bank, including strategy delivery and stakeholder engagement, as well as developing the bank’s new global communications strategy and leading a review into their approach to sustainability and philanthropy.
James has a background in public policy – researching and publishing two major reports, one on the UK’s relationship with the European Union and one on access to finance – and has worked at a think tank and in the UK Parliament. More recently, he authored a chapter on corporate reputation for the 2025 Oxford Handbook of Organisational Social Evaluations. James holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from the University of Oxford.
James is also a trustee of Build on Belief, a charity offering socially-based services for people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. He plays Sunday League football on Hackney Marshes and spends the rest of his time jumping about with his oldest friend watching The Arsenal.
