Laura advises clients involved in legal disputes or investigations which have the potential to impact reputation or corporate value. She advises in matters ranging from commercial disputes to competition cases, class actions, mass torts, white collar crime, regulatory investigations, intellectual property and employment disputes.

She is a former barrister, who specialized in employment, public and commercial law at Littleton Chambers in London.

More recently she was a Member of Parliament and Justice Minister from 2023-24. In Government, she introduced major legislation on criminal justice and implemented the recommendations of public inquiries.

During her time as a barrister she was regularly instructed to conduct sensitive workplace investigations and was appointed to the Attorney-General's Panel of Counsel, the Equality and Human Rights Commission's Panel of Counsel, and as Counsel to the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse. She was ranked as a leading employment law junior by Chambers UK.

Before the Bar she worked as a journalist for BBC News and Reuters in Washington DC and London. She has written on law and politics for the Times, the Guardian and the Telegraph. She regularly appears in the media on shows including BBC Question Time, Radio 4's Today Programme, Newsnight and Channel 4 News.
