Life Pre-FGS Global
Matthew led the financial-services practice at Global Counsel and was a managing director at FTI. He headed public affairs at UK Finance and regulatory policy at Lloyds Banking Group. He began his career as a civil servant and regulator, with roles at HM Treasury and the Financial Conduct Authority.
Life Beyond FGS Global
Playing and watching cricket. Unhealthily interested in Star Trek. Working out how to coordinate shared family time with two adult children.
Matthew is a Partner and leads FGS Global’s Financial Services Public Policy team. Based in London, he joined FGS Global in 2026 and has over 30 years’ experience working in public and regulatory policy for the UK government, regulators, the banking sector and consultancy.
Immediately prior to joining FGS Global, Matthew led the financial-services practice at strategic advisory firm Global Counsel. Before that, he was a managing director at FTI Consulting advising clients on UK financial-services regulation. He headed public affairs, strategy and policy at trade body UK Finance and, before that, group regulatory policy at Lloyds Banking Group. He began his career as a UK civil servant, working in various government departments including HM Treasury, before becoming a director at communications regulator Ofcom and working as a policy consultant at the Financial Conduct Authority.
Matthew holds a BSc honours degree in politics from the University of Bristol.
