Tim van der Zanden

Life at FGS Global

Highly effective C-suite advisor, specialized in critical communications moments during highly visible company transformations. Strategic thinker with a good eye for execution. Deep understanding of social, digital, owned and earned media, stakeholder management, employee engagement and leadership communications, in a variety of industries and sectors.

Life Pre-FGS Global

Started off in consulting back in 2001, followed by 17 years of in-house communication leadership roles at AkzoNobel, Ahold Delhaize, The Heineken Company and Philips Domestic Appliances.

Life Beyond FGS Global

Fanatic tennis player, with a backhand volley that keeps on misbehaving. Love my fair share of Berlin originated electronic dance music, and if there is time left, watching movies in theaters and having weekend getaways with my family.

Tim is a Partner in the recently opened Amsterdam office. Following a successful in-house and consulting career, he covers many areas in the corporate communication realm, including financial communications, media relations, CEO and Board positioning, next to crisis communication, stakeholder outreach programs and employee engagement. Having worked in variety of industries, both B2B and B2C, Tim represents clients in a broad spectrum, with one thing in common: transformation.

Born and raised in the south of The Netherlands, Tim moved to Amsterdam to kick-start his consulting career at a well-established global PR firm. That really is where he got infected with the 'comms virus', even still today, quite a deviation from his high-school plans to follow a teaching career.

Building on expertise in the area of media relations and financial communications, he moved over from consulting to in-house and helped AkzoNobel leave it conglomerate status behind during an impressive period of massive transformation, including multi-billion dollar deals divesting itd Pharma business and acquiring British' ICI, moving the HQ and changing the company brand.

Stepping into the world of food retail at Dutch-based retail giant Ahold, only to quickly get involved in a long-anticipated cross-border and cross-continent merger with Delhaize Group, creating one of the world's top 10 largest food retail companies. The highly-covered merger was followed by a very satisfying and intense 3.5 years at the Dutch crown jewel Albert Heijn, running Company Communications & Public Affairs before moving to The Heineken Company.

As Head of Global Communications, Tim and his team had to quickly adapt to a new covid-19 reality, and combined with a well-executed CEO transfer, change & transformation were the constant factor during his tenure. His most recent assignment was at Philips Domestic Appliances, where he successfully accompanied the spin-off from Royal Philips, to new private equity ownership.

Tim holds a Corporate Communications Diploma and an English Teacher’s degree from Fontys Higher Education in Tilburg, accompanied by business courses at Insead, Cornell University, and Kellog executive education.
