William Thompson joins FGS Global as Managing Director

Washington D.C., April 22, 2026 – FGS Global, the world's leading strategic leadership advisory firm, is pleased to welcome William Thompson as a Managing Director in the Washington, D.C. office. Will brings extensive experience structuring and executing complex cross-border transactions across infrastructure, energy, and critical minerals, further deepening our expertise in emerging markets investment, due diligence, and geopolitics.

Will most recently served as Managing Director for Sovereign Partnerships at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), where he led sovereign-to-sovereign investment transactions and bilateral partnerships between the U.S. government and partner nation governments, advancing U.S. foreign policy priorities through strategic investment and economic engagement. In his work with DFC he led commercial negotiations for and spearheaded implementation of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, advancing strategic investment in critical minerals, energy, infrastructure, and defense technology.

Will previously served as Director of Global Fund Investments where he led DFC’s investments in global infrastructure and natural resources private equity funds. In this role, he managed DFC's limited partner commitments to multi-regional funds spanning infrastructure, critical minerals and mining, telecommunications, agribusiness, and energy — including a high-profile $1 billion fund focused on critical infrastructure and energy across Africa and Asia.

Prior, he served as Director of Direct Equity Investments at DFC, where he drove the full investment cycle for private equity transactions — from deal sourcing and due diligence through valuation, term sheet negotiation, and board advisory. Earlier in his DFC career, he served as Senior Economist, Policy Advisor for the Western Hemisphere, and Economic Impact Analyst. Before joining DFC, Will served as an International Trade Analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor. Will holds a B.A. from Southern Methodist University. He currently serves on the Advisory Council of the U.S.-Mexico Foundation.

"We are delighted to welcome Will to FGS Global. His depth of experience gained through an impressive tenure at DFC – spanning investment, policy, and economics – gives him a unique vantage point on how capital, geopolitics, and development intersect," said Joel Johnson, Partner and Head of the Washington, D.C. office. "As clients navigate an increasingly complex environment around critical minerals, energy security, and emerging markets, Will's transactional expertise and government relationships will be an exceptional asset."
