What was your journey prior to FGS Global and how did you hear about the firm?

Prior to joining FGS, I worked as a public affairs and government relations associate at a local agency in Los Angeles. After graduating and studying Sociology, I decided to further my academic career and studied public relations and advertising at the University of Southern California. I had done several PR-related internships across various industries and discovered my utmost passion for financial communications. Being one of the best in the sector, FGS Global had always been the company I aspired to join. I had decided to relocate to Asia around the same time the UKMEA program went live, and it was at that moment that I knew I had to apply.

Tell us about a typical day

Each day can be vastly different, but I always start my morning by conducting media monitoring. Some might say clipping is a mindless task, but it truly is the best way to stay on top of all the industry news and grasp the media sentiment toward your clients. My everyday tasks for each client vary a lot, ranging from conducting background research, drafting press releases, to comprising coverage reports.

What is your favorite aspect of the job?

Having endless things to learn. My clients range from private equity firms, tech giants, to consulting companies. No two days are the same, and I am constantly absorbing new knowledge and skillsets from not only doing client tasks but also working with all the intelligent individuals in the office.

How would you describe yourself as a member of the team?

Being one of the newer members on the team, I consider myself as curious, diligent, and enthusiastic. I think it’s important to acknowledge that as a young professional, there’s limitless space for improvement. Hence, I am extremely receptive to feedback and open to new challenges.

What do you think is special about FGS Global?

The people. I am thankful to be surrounded by a cohort of people who are extremely intelligent, experienced, supportive and willing-to-teach. They are my colleagues, mentors, and friends. People at my office come from different academic and professional background, and I think it’s not only fascinating but also crucial to work with people who can share different perspectives in our industry.

What was your journey prior to FGS Global and how did you hear about the firm?

Before joining FGS Global, I studied Economics and History at the University of Chicago. My previous work experiences include an internship in ESG consulting and writing for an English-language publication with a China focus. I first heard of FGS through a friend at the firm and was encouraged to apply through the UKMEA Graduate Program. With a keen interest in the geopolitics, financial sector, and current affairs, FGS stood out as a very compelling career choice given the breadth of its operational scope and client base. Working here now, I confidently say I have made the right choice!

Tell us about a typical day

Typical mornings consist of media monitoring and client research, which are vital to our media intelligence operations and an opportunity to keep me informed and sharp. Outside of the routine work, the rest of the day is often quite unpredictable. Each day brings something new, and I find that the dynamic nature of my work makes it hard to describe a typical day!

What is your favorite aspect of the job?

My favourite aspect of the job is how dynamic the work is. We have a diverse list of major global clients, each with their own goals and needs. As a graduate, the opportunity to work closely with these big names, and to be clued into their ever-changing agendas and targets, is a great learning experience. At FGS, you can learn at an incredible pace.

How would you describe yourself as a member of the team?

I consider myself to be a rather outspoken and opinionated person, and I’m glad that is seen as a plus here. Everyone here is a valued member of the team regardless of level, and everyone’s voice matters. As a team member, I already feel that I shoulder real responsibility. The work here is very collaborative, and I can both support and lead various client engagements.

What do you think is special about FGS Global?

In the corporate communications industry, there aren’t many firms with a scope of business that matches FGS Global. We are truly a global firm with a global offering, and it’s great that our current and future clients are starting to understand just how much we can do for them. For me, it offers a chance to learn from all the wonderful people at FGS who are specialists in diverse fields. It’s the people that make a firm like FGS succeed, and we have no shortage of supportive, knowledgeable, and hardworking talent.

What was your journey prior to FGS Global and how did you hear about the firm?

Prior to FGS Global, I studied Geography with Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science. As someone who’s inherently curious about the world, I took up internship opportunities in the public (Civil Service College International), private (APCO Worldwide), people (Common Ground, a social enterprise) and academia sectors (LSE and UCL), spanning across Singapore, Shanghai and London. Throughout those experiences, I realise that many sectors and stakeholders want change to respond to the world’s most urgent issues, but change is not happening at the scale we need. I saw, through an internship at APCO Worldwide, how effective strategic communications can play a crucial role in accelerating change by raising awareness and mobilising support for innovative solutions. As such, applying to FGS Global through the Graduate programme was a natural next step to continue engaging with the stakeholder economy.

Tell us about a typical day

I start off the day crafting news summaries on stories that matter most to businesses, before deep diving into research reports and curating speaking notes for key spokespersons in the region. Depending on the news of the day and the clients’ request, I could also be monitoring the latest breaking stories, write briefing notes or working on business pitches.

What is your favorite aspect of the job?

Working with a variety of people and clients is something that I enjoy a lot. From banks to tech companies to telco firms, FGS Global has given me numerous exposures to clients from different sectors and regions - getting to be part of The Earthshot Prize team in Singapore just a couple of months into my career and seeing Prince William, Donnie Yen and Jacinda Arden was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Our team always needs to stay on top of different industry trends and news, so we can advise our clients with suitable strategies. It is challenging yet interesting to see how we can support our clients to deliver key messages to their key audiences. And of course, working with colleagues from different backgrounds and offices is amazing. The teams have been giving a lot of support and feedback to new learners like me, who want to see you succeed and grow both professionally and personally.

How would you describe yourself as a member of the team?

Always curious and eager to learn more! Beyond that, I support with research, media relations and corporate communications just to name a few. I also have specific interests in ESG and sustainability.

What do you think is special about FGS Global?

I love how creative, international and diverse the FGS Global is. I get to work on the most complex issues and try to piece the puzzles together through compelling narratives. Given how multifaceted challenges businesses face can be, I also get to frequently collaborate with the colleagues on projects across Asia, North America, Europe and Middle East and stay attuned to latest updates and insights on the ground. Last but not least, colleagues here are supportive and caring, and there’s a huge emphasis on team work.
