Post-Election Alternative Futures
Election Analysis Framework
With so many possibilities to consider, planning for the post-election environment can be daunting. To bring order to unpredictability, FGS Global developed an Election Analysis Framework, providing our clients with a valuable lens through which to consider the political, legislative, and regulatory landscape after the election.
The framework is structured around two binary outcomes: 1) either Trump wins or Harris wins, and 2) either there is single-party control or the White House, House, and Senate, or a divided government.
These outcomes generate four potential futures that we can describe and plan for.
MAGA MOMENTUM
Trump wins the White House, and Republicans keep the House and gain control of the Senate. Trump can pursue his agenda with few checks and balances.
PROGRESSIVE PUSH
Harris wins the White House. Democrats take the House and defy conventional wisdom by holding the Senate. The progressive community competes to set legislative priorities.
POWER STRUGGLE
Trump wins the White House and Republicans gain control of the Senate. But in a close election, Democrats gain control of the House. The courts become an arbiter in the power struggle between Trump and House Democrats.
STALEMATE
Harris wins the White House while Republicans flip the Senate (and gain control over nominations). Little legislation moves while Democrats and Republicans struggle to find common ground.
We face a broad range of possible post-election operating environments.
Each possible future requires different strategies and tactics to seize business opportunities, mitigate threats, and protect the freedom to operate. Through Alternative Futures scenario planning, FGS Global brings clarity and rigor to future-proofing your business.
We have added detail and color to these possible futures in the documents linked below. They serve as conversation starters when considering what businesses may be facing in 2025. Our experts can work with you to develop Alternative Futures grids specific to your industry, company, or issues.
